I turn newel posts and spindles for new and replacement staircases. If you are having an extension built, I can copy existing stair parts, so you don’t have a mix of styles – cheap modern ones instead of Victorian grandeur, for example. I also make newel caps to fit on the top of the post.
Some posts also have carved or turned decorations attached such as rosettes. I can make replacements of those, too.

With a good supply of reclaimed pitch pine and Scots pine at my disposal, I can get a good match of grain and colour for your replacement spindles, posts and caps. This can be a great feature for a restoration or extension and provide a seamless link between the old and the new. This can be seen in some of the images above, where old joinery meets the modern hand made replica work.
I can manufacture replacement joinery from an original spindle, for example, or from photographs with supplied dimensions. This is often a preferred way of doing it, as it is less trouble than taking out a spindle or post.
So, send an image and dimensions to get an estimate for a replacement post or spindle.
